The Science Behind IV Therapy: How it Works

Updated: Aug 11, 2023

IV therapy is an increasingly-popular method of treating a variety of common illnesses and conditions at the source. If IV therapy treatments are something you’ve been wanting to try, but been a little hesitant about, that’s okay.

You’re in the right place to learn more about intravenous therapy and make an educated decision for you and your loved ones. Read on for the science behind this health trend, and pretty soon you’ll see why this practice might just become your favorite too.

WHAT IS IV THERAPY?

To keep it plain and simple, IV Therapy is the process of taking nutrients directly into the bloodstream via a tiny catheter placed by a needle into a vein (hence, intravenous therapy). We understand this might sound uncomfortable at first, but our in-house team are experts at placing IV catheters. They’ll do their best to keep you comfortable the whole time you’re under our care.

Your individual dose frequency depends on your needs, but we recommend once a week for maximum long term benefits. While some patients reported positive effects for up to 4 weeks, on average, you’ll notice effects for 5-7 days after your treatment. Sometimes, you will notice effects the second you walk out our doors!

WHY CAN’T I JUST TAKE A VITAMIN?

While oral supplements are great for a lot of things, they pale in comparison to the results you get from intravenous therapy. This is because IV therapy treatments allow your body to absorb nutrients faster and more efficiently than it would with an oral supplement.

When you take a vitamin orally, stomach acid breaks down much of the good stuff your body needs, so you’re left with only 10%-20% of the dosage (and the benefits) you would’ve had from IV therapy. Unfortunately, modern food might not be as nutrient dense as it was in the past, so It’s also been said that the average food today doesn’t carry nearly as many nutrients as it used to, so you might already be deficient in your diet. However, using intravenous therapy is a quick way to help your body recover faster than ever before.

Another benefit of IV therapy going straight into your bloodstream is that your body is able to take in higher doses of your chosen nutrient drip. That’s right — not only does your body keep more of the good stuff, but we can also give it more nutrients because of the higher absorption rate.

This is a prime example of how it’s less about what you’re taking, and more about how you’re taking it, to get the maximum benefits you need. Of course, our talented clinicians are happy to help you choose your ideal drip. You can be confident that anything on our drip menu is going to improve your quality of life, no matter where you’re at on your health journey.
